Center Court: Fashion District Welcomes More than 150,000 Visitors on Opening Weekend, Exceeding Traffic and Sales Expectations

Fashion District Philadelphia opened last Thursday to much fanfare, with four days of celebration to mark this important retail and entertainment destination in downtown Philadelphia. Just one week ago, thousands of guests were welcomed into The District for the first time – where they were met with a dynamic mix of tenants, live music, giveaways and more. More than 156,000 consumers visited The District in just the first four days, driving meaningful results for tenants. In fact, 87% of tenants reported strong traffic and sales, with a majority exceeding sales expectations for opening weekend.

The celebration kicked off last Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by hundreds of consumers, anxious for their first glimpse of The District. PREIT CEO Joe Coradino was joined by Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, Macerich CEO Tom O’Hern and Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau President & CEO Julie Coker Graham to share remarks on this momentous occasion. As the crowd chanted “cut it!” the four leaders cut the ribbon and opened the doors to the public for the very first time.

All weekend long, The District celebrated with a series of experiential activations and events encouraging guests to “Go For It” and explore the food, film, fashion and fun at The District. Visitors enjoyed fashion shows, guided art crawls, sampling from Market Eats restaurants, a bootcamp workout, live performances including Chill Moody, the Philadelphia Pops, and much more. Tenants also offered specials and deals to keep the fun rolling.

Crowds flocked to retailers, restaurants and experiential tenants throughout the weekend. Visitors enjoyed delicious bites at City Winery and Market Eats – a collection of eateries featuring;  an array of fashion, beauty and accessories at various retailers; and marshmallow fun at Candytopia. Where else can you jump into 250,000 foam marshmallows – and grab the perfect picture?!

This week, Philly Fashion Week is on site with activations, events and fashion shows.  The fun never ends – with many new tenants opening yet this year, great retailer offers and a dozen events planned for October – you’re never bored at The District.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to swing by The District to check it out! And to learn more about upcoming events, visit our calendar of events here. See you there!
