New River Valley Mall is located less than ten miles from Virginia Tech
and Radford Universities bringing approximately 42,000 college
students to the area. In 2007, the mall underwent an extensive
redevelopment which focused on incorporating the mountain
landscape and the "Hokie Stone" used in Virginia Tech's architecture
into the property. The renovation included a grand fireplace and an
impressive seating area at Center Court. Regal Cinemas relocated to a
free-standing fourteen screen stadium theater to make way for exciting
new retail within the mall. The New River Valley Community College,
located on mall and enrolling over 1000 students, and the adjacent
New River Valley Center opened in Fall of 2007. New River Valley Center
is a 165,248 sf power center and includes desirable retailers such as
Bed Bath & Beyond, OldNavy, Olive Garden, Panera Bread and others
that cater to the university community.
